I’m glad I had the opportunity to work with Robert at SolarWinds - it was the second time in my career. Robert brings new ideas to the company and formulates them into a clear vision. His strength is working directly with development teams (by that I really mean programming and implementation). There he sees systemic problems and brings this experience to the organizational level by proposing its gradual improvement.
I like his systems thinking, the way he names waste and he has influenced many of us in our daily work. We both share enthusiasm for test automation and other continuous integration (CI) practices. Robert helped SolarWinds a lot in this area (and that’s leaving aside other agile practices).
If there is one sentence that reminds me of Robert, it’s this:
“If you’re not good at something, do it more often.”
I’ve known Robert for many years and he’s always been the person I went to when I needed advice on software development processes. Robert is known for his deep knowledge of agile theory, but I would like to emphasize his practical experience, which sets him apart from theoretical consultants.
Robert can listen carefully and find the root cause of a problem. His suggestions are based on experience and practice. He is also aware of the situation in real companies and that it’s not enough to be just an agile enthusiast - very often it’s necessary to find ways to combine an agile approach with existing processes and rules in the company. I would definitely recommend Robert to anyone who wants to improve software development organization in their company.
I had the opportunity to work with Robert at SolarWinds for more than 5 years, but even before that I met him on various occasions at agile community meetings in Central Europe. Robert is a well-known agile enthusiast who actively uses his knowledge in coaching teams in software companies.
He always looks for the real cause of the problem he’s currently facing, doesn’t try to just treat the symptom. He likes to help others not only solve their problem, but also elevate their knowledge and skills so that he can leave knowing he left them wiser and more experienced.
He often brings new ideas to shared conversations, very much likes to challenge the status quo and the usual way of working and promotes experiments and innovative ideas that have helped us tremendously with real agility (not ad-hoc) in our daily work.
As a bonus, thanks to his deep technical knowledge, which he gained as a programmer writing code for many years (yes, he still actively codes), he can truly understand the impact of changes on a developer’s daily life.
I would recommend Robert to anyone who wants to build a truly agile culture in their company, whether at the product level, single team, or entire company.
I had the honor of working with Robert in the pilot group that carried out agile transformation at SolarWinds and I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. Robert has very deep knowledge of agile principles and techniques and has many tools at his disposal that he can use in practice, depending on what the situation requires.
His advice in the early days of my career served as the foundation of my knowledge in subsequent years, and even today I use many things I learned from him back then. Robert commands a range of technical skills (test-driven development, iterative development, and more) that he can pass on to others. He also has the right soft skills - an ideal combination for a coach who wants to bring deep change.
Seeing him work as a Scrum Master and agile coach, his passion, abilities, approach and way of working was the main reason why agile development also became my passion for the rest of my career.
Robert is a leader worthy of respect. Not because he’s loud and domineering, he’s actually a calm and modest personality. But because when his teams come to him with a question, he doesn’t provide them with a cheap answer. He’d rather suggest an experiment that will help the team find a possible solution while teaching everyone a valuable lesson.
When product development at SolarWinds organically grew to more than 10 Scrum teams, Robert naturally began to play the role of agile coach and led the transformation process for an entire large part of the product - the platform.
I will always admire his enthusiasm and deep knowledge of LeSS concepts, as well as his ability to apply LeSS thinking to product development. I was fortunate to share work experience with Robert, I saw him drive the never-ending improvement process with all its successes and failures.
Working with Robert was a great experience. He helped me grow and look at problems from a systemic and global perspective. Robert is very capable and flexible - he can instantly switch between developer, Product Owner, agile coach, manager, … From my perspective, this flexibility and practical experience enable him to be an excellent advisor and mentor for both developers and managers.
Robert has a great ability to find inefficiency, root causes and visualize the problem and propose a solution. A systemic solution, at a global level, so that the company can benefit from improved communication and collaboration without unwanted dependencies and bottlenecks.
He has great knowledge of agile methods - Scrum, LeSS and others and knows how to apply them to the organization, collaboration between departments and create a great culture that inspires and motivates people.
Robert is also a great listener and willing to listen at every opportunity. I really enjoyed working with him and hope we will continue to work together in the future.
Working with Robert is like sailing with an experienced sea captain. In a storm, everyone on the ship can rely on his experience and abilities. He calmly steers the ship in the right direction. When the waves calm down, Robert is more than willing to share his experiences, discuss various options for further action, improve the skills of the entire team and prepare for what lies ahead.
Overall, Robert is a great listener and partner for productive discussions. I really appreciate that in situations where he doesn’t know the answer or solution, he’d rather suggest an experiment, evaluate it and repeat the process until perfection is achieved.
